B vitamins in bioactive form

Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex combines all B vitamins in just one capsule: Vitamin B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), biotin (B7), and folic acid (B9). The various B vitamins work closely together in the body. Only if all B vitamins are present in sufficient quantities is it possible for important processes to run smoothly.

Some B vitamins must first be converted into their bioactive form in the body. Folic acid and vitamin B12, for example, are methylated for this purpose. If the methylation process in our body does not function optimally, even a sufficient intake of folic acid cannot achieve the desired effect.

Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex contains the vitamins folic acid as 5-MTHF, vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin and vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate. These biologically active forms can be directly utilized by the body and can therefore support the metabolism particularly efficiently*.

Supplementary intake of folic acid is particularly useful: 79% of men and 68% of women do not have an adequate supply of this important vitamin (NVS2).

Synergy of the B vitamins: Nutrient power for the nerves

Our nervous system has a particularly high nutrient requirement. The brain, as the central part of the nervous system, continuously requires an enormous amount of energy as well as numerous vitamins to maintain its diverse functions.

The B vitamins in the body work closely together to support the nervous system and energy metabolism.* At the same time, the pantothenic acid contained in Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex supports normal mental performance.

More is not better - vitamin B6 in a safe dosage

Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex is particularly sensible and carefully dosed. Just one capsule covers the daily requirement of all B vitamins - with the exception of B6. Vitamin B6 was deliberately dosed lower at 50 % of the daily requirement. At 0.7 mg, the dosage is slightly below the maximum value of 0.9 mg recommended by the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). This is because taking too high a dose of B6 supplements can lead to nerve problems (peripheral sensory neuropathy) (BfR, 2024).

Many conventional preparations contain significantly more vitamin B6 than necessary and recommended. Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex, on the other hand, provides a deliberately moderate but effective dosage.

Who has an increased need for vitamin B?

In some life situations, the need for B vitamins is increased, e.g:

- Chronic stress

- During pregnancy and breastfeeding

- During intense sporting activity

- With high tobacco or alcohol consumption

- In the case of methylation deficiency

In addition, older age, the use of certain medications and some illnesses can impair the absorption of B vitamins or increase the need for them.

Methylation deficiency is widespread

An elevated homocysteine level with an adequate intake of B vitamins is a good indication of a methylation deficiency. This is due to a polymorphism in the gene for the MTHFR enzyme, which converts folic acid into the bioactive methylfolate. Around 45% of people worldwide have this polymorphism, which is why folic acid is less able to be activated. The methylation deficiency is particularly pronounced in 15 %. Here, the gene is present in the homozygous form (Public Health Portal of Austria, 2024).

In Dr. Jacob's Vitamin B Complex, folic acid and vitamin B12 are already present in their bioactive methyl form. Incidentally, the choline and betaine contained serve as so-called methyl donors.

Well supplied during pregnancy and breastfeeding

The need for B vitamins and choline is significantly increased during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Accordingly, the German Nutrition Society's (DGE) recommended intake of vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin and folic acid is higher for pregnant women. According to the DGE, all B vitamins should be increased during breastfeeding.

Special attention is paid to folic acid during pregnancy. Folic acid not only contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy, but also to normal blood formation. Vitamins B6 and B12 are also important for the formation of red blood cells.* This is particularly important during pregnancy, as the blood volume increases by around 2 liters to 6-7 liters.

At 550 µg per day, the DGE's recommended intake of folic acid is almost twice as high as for non-pregnant women (300 µg per day). The supplementary intake of folic acid is recommended for all women in the first trimester of pregnancy and for all women who want to or could become pregnant.

The combination of all B vitamins in one capsule ensures an optimal supply - for new energy, nerves and much more.
