Beta vulgaris conditiva
Edible green tops, pink stems and bright red skin, reveal striking white and rose stripes when sliced. Sweet, mild and tender.
Direct seed in spring 1 month before last frost. Plant at 2 week intervals up to 2 1/2 months before the first frost. Sow 1.5 cm deep, 5 cm apart, in rows 30-60 cm apart. Thin to 7-10 cm. Soak seeds overnight for improved germination. Full sun. Keep moist.
